Benahavís sits in the hills behind San Pedro and Marbella. The white village is small, with steep streets and quiet squares. Around it are large estates, golf courses and a deep river gorge. You can be on the coast in fifteen minutes, but the air and the light feel different up here.
The white village
The old centre is small and quiet. Whitewashed walls, flowers on the balconies, a handful of squares. Cars stay outside. You walk slowly and you stop often.
Known for its restaurants
Benahavís is called the dining room of the Costa del Sol. The village has more than twenty restaurants, from small family kitchens to fine dining. Long lunches are the norm, not the exception.
Golf and big estates
Around the village sit some of the best courses in the south of Spain, with names like La Zagaleta, El Madroñal and Los Arqueros. Estates are large, gates are real and views run to the sea.
Mountains and river
Behind the village the land rises into pine forest and rock. The Guadalmina river cuts a deep gorge through it. Walkers, bikers and climbers all find their place here.

Where is Benahavís
Benahavís sits inland from San Pedro de Alcántara, on the road that climbs from the coast toward Ronda. The village is about ten kilometres from the sea and the drive into Marbella or Puerto Banús takes around twenty minutes. Málaga airport is roughly an hour by car.
